Altoona Band Rocks Harder Than Other Groups

Altoona band says hard work–or at least getting a girlfriend with a job–is the key to success.

Altoona-based rock band, Awesum Possum, says it rocks harder than other area groups. Lacking physical evidence of its rock hardedness, the group’s front man Vince Caledonia says fans will offer proof.

Barry Munderson, an Awesum Possum fan, said he believes the band, indeed, does rock harder than other groups.

“First of all, my credentials are impeccable, I’ve been going to bars to hear bands in Altoona for the past, Oh, let’s say dozen years, and I can say that Awesum Possum rocks extremely hard,” Munderson said. “And I’m not saying that because I am drunk or because my cousin, Ricky, plays drums.”

Mandy Milton, another Possum fan, agrees.

“Awesome Possum. Wooo! Rock hard!” Milton exclaims, adding in a loud, slurred whisper, “I’m so stoned dude.”

Caledonia said that the band did not always rock hard. When the band formed in 2005 and reformed in 2006 and then reformed again in late 2006, they were not able to rock hard.

“We were lame, man,” said Caledonia. “Lame.”

While equipment may have played a roll in the inability to rock hard, Caledonia said a lack of commitment from band members was the most evident cause.

“I said, dudes, do you want to rock hard or do you want to smoke weed and pick up chicks?” Caledonia said. “And when the band seemed to come to terms they would prefer smoking pot and picking up chicks, I said that rocking hard will get us more gigs, so we can smoke more pot, and pick up more chicks.”

“I learned that from the Psych class I took at the Altoona campus before dropping out to work at Hot Topics,” Caledonia said. “It’s just a matter of connecting performance to motivation. We’ve been rocking hard ever since.”

While geographically centered in Altoona, Caledonia believes the band could rock hard in larger venues, for instance, in Johnstown.
