State College Parents Demand Grand Stand

Artists rendering… Mmmm… Renderin’s.

State College School Board faced the wrath of hundreds of parents who were upset at the price tag of the new concession stand project.

“A quarter of a millions dollars?” said G. Franklin Uppercoat, spokesperson for State College Parents for Exclusivity. “I have seen affordable housing units in State College that cost more than that. Where’s the hoity? Where’s the toity?”

The group said the concession stand, which will be built at the high school track, fails to live up to most State College building projects. The group presented the board with a list of items that were missing from the concession stand plan.

“Ummm. sushi bar. Hello?” Uppercoat said. “And where’s the gold brocade? The oak doors?”

Uppercoat pointed out that the concession stand is too similar to other schools. “It looks like a place where someone from Penns Valley would be seen enjoying frankfurters and french-friend potatoes,” Uppercoat said. “I say, should I now buy a pickup truck and wear a ball cap so I can blend in with the rabble?”

“I nearly fell out of my Pradas when I looked at the blueprints,” said Allie Sherdy, another member of the group. “There’s no cappuccino bar. The thought of attending one of my child’s sporting endeavors without ready access to an Italian coffee drink is unsettling to say the least. Imagine!”

School board members are standing their ground, but there’s some signs that support for the plain concession stand is cracking. Some members have asked for a glass elevator to be installed to access the observatory already slated to be installed on the roof of the snack bar.

“It’s a start,” said Uppercoat. “But we won’t be bought off by cheap glass elevators.”

It’s true! Why should a Blue Ribbon school like State College suffer the same, crummy concession services that lower quality schools suffer. We’re better and we should show that in every possible way.

    Hold on there, Ricardo!

There are those who think a deep-fried twinkie is the height of class and style. I’m one of them.

State College High is far from blue ribbon my friend. If you call blue ribbon a high school that leaks water when it rains, has no air conditioning, the decor from the 70’s, and is generally completely worn out I guess you need to take a look at some of the other high schools in our area. Us over the mountainers “OMers” in Clearfield have a school with air conditioning, football field with lots of parking, a concession stand at the football / track and field complex, baseball fields, soccer fields, a golf course, basketball court, weight rooms, tennis courts, track & field course, swimming pool with elevated seating and our students don’t have to cross a busy road to go to another class.

All of this could have been in State College High, but the local folks of State College didn’t want their high school to be a state of the art facility. And voted to kick out the school board.

    Here! Here! BJB
In Tyrone, I lettered in competitive eating. I doubt seriously such varied extracurricular activities were available to students in Dear Ole State High.

I live in State College, but I’ll be bringing my family to Tyrone each weekend so we can gaze at your wind farm.
