Henry Louis Gates pictured here with massive chip on his shoulder. "Let my people go," President Barack Obama said at a recent press conference. "But don't let the police go." Obama, responding to a question about a Harvard professor's run-in with the Cambridge police this week, said that police had no right investigating possible break-ins at homes owned by black intellectuals. Police said they had received a report that two men were attempting to break into a home. According to Obama, police acted "stupidly" by actually investigating a crime without knowing the race of the owner of the home. "The po-po have no right patrolling, cruising, investigating, responding, or otherwise visiting a neighborhood where there could be a black person," said Obama. "You don't know our history!" When the police responded at the home of Henry Louis Gates, Sgt. James Crowley said Gates became incensed at the officer's presence in his home and became irate. "Impossible. You don't know our history!" said Obama. "Black people don't get incensed, they are filled with a righteous and valid indignation against the threat to oppression to everyone, everywhere, except white cops." The President offers some statistics to back up his claim. According to the latest crime reports, no white people have been arrested by white cops, despite some conflicting footage on the television show "Cops." Furthermore, stats show that only black people are arrested. In 2007, a white cop did write a ticket to a white guy for speeding, but the case was later thrown out by a judge, citing the cop's failure to find a black speeder. Interestingly, white cops have never arrested a guilty black person. Statistics indicate that only innocent black people are routinely arrested by white cops. Obama admitted he "didn't have all the facts." He later recanted that statement saying, "black people have all the facts, but it is white people who have denied them the facts because of the color of their skin." Obama has promised to review all incidents where white police officers have responded to calls at black people's homes. He warned against such intrusions in the future. "You don't know our history!"
